COMMUNITY EVENTS
This is a fun event to welcome back existing students, welcome new students, and just have fun before school starts. For many new students, it's a chance to meet a few classmates before school starts, so that the first day of school is a much easier transition. And, how can anything with hot dogs, watermelon, songs, friends, and sun be anything but fun!

May Day was a traditional celebration of Spring, the Earth and children for over 40 years at the school. The students and parents wore ethnic costumes and prepared garlands of flowers. lanterns hung from the trees and flowers decorated the bridge.
Because of the unreliability of weather conditions, we moved our celebration to the month of June. But we have maintained many aspects of the historic tradition. We still start the day with bagpipe music and a parade. The whole Spring Valley community gathers at the meadow by the pond. The graduating 8th grade class, in caps and gowns, is presented with diplomas. The children sing and dance for their parents. 3rd and 4th graders perform the traditional May Pole Dance with colorful streamers cascading from the May Pole. Awards are presented to parent volunteers and staff. Parents are encouraged to bring family members or guests to this special, colorful, meaningful event.
