Program in the Montessori Method of Education
Spring
Valley Montessori Teacher Education Program is licensed by the State of
Washington, Washington Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board and
accredited by MACTE Commission, (Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher
Education).
The
purpose of the course is to acquaint and instruct teachers, parents and student
teachers in the Montessori Method of early childhood education. The course will provide insight into the
theory behind the method, teach the use of special materials that are uniquely
Montessori, supply ideas and skills that can be translated into action
immediately in both the home and the classroom, and demonstrate the technique
for making one's own materials in the manner of Montessori. The course directs itself primarily to the
teaching of children 2½ through 6 years
of age, though the skills and philosophy can be applied to older children as
well.
Classes
will be held on Tuesdays from 2:30 to 9:00 p.m., beginning in September and concluding in June at
the Spring Valley Montessori School Campus.
Practicum
of minimum 4 hrs/day, total 720 hrs/year, may start after the summer reading
